Help for Rescues
Last updated 2026-10-03
For shelters, rescues, foster networks and public animal-welfare organizations.
Claiming is free
Nonprofit and public animal-welfare organizations never pay money or Paw Points to claim or keep their profile. Foster-only groups are welcome.
Claim vs verification
- Search for your organization from Rescue onboarding, or create a new profile if it isn't listed.
- Submit your claim. An admin reviews it — you get no management access until it's approved.
- Claimed means you manage the profile. Verified is a separate admin check. Archer's Rescue Partner is a separate designation. None of these is a guarantee of safety or performance.
Team roles
Owner: everything, including ownership transfer and PetMatch consent. Admin: manage profile, team and PetMatch consent. Editor: manage animals, photos and profile details. Viewer: read-only.
Inviting your team
- From your rescue dashboard, create an invite for a teammate's email and role.
- Send it yourself using Email, Text, Share or Copy link — PawQuest doesn't send the email for you.
- Your teammate signs in with the invited email and accepts. Links work once, only for the invited person, and show their expiry date. Making a new link or cancelling turns the old one off.
Profile, PawStops and animals
Update your description, public area, contact links and logo. Request to link PawStops (your physical location on the map) for admin approval.
Add adoptable animals with real photos. Text and photos are safety-checked before they appear publicly. Injury or medical photos go to a person for review rather than being penalized.
PetMatch consent
Owners and admins decide whether eligible adoptable animals can appear in PetMatch. It shows "Not reviewed yet" until you choose, and it's off by default.
Staying active (90/180 days)
Free status depends on meaningful management activity, such as updating animals or your profile. After 90 days without activity you'll be reminded; after 180 days the profile needs reverification. PawQuest never deletes your data or removes ownership because of inactivity.
Verified rescue with no owner?
Use Request access on the rescue's page. An admin must approve it, and the verified status is kept.
External listings and future integrations
Some rescue locations come from OpenStreetMap. A RescueGroups directory connection is optional and not active yet. Petfinder is not integrated. Syncing from PawPal HQ is planned for the future and not available yet.
If information about your organization is wrong, edit it from your dashboard or report it.
